Shortly after importing a consignment of glass curtain wall from China, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), the developer of Delhi airport, has secured temporary work permits for 42 workmen from the country to install the glass wall in the upcoming building at terminal 3 of the airport. The developer has applied for work permits for 200 workers and permit clearance process for the remaining workforce is on.
According to the official spokesperson, DAIL , Arun Arora, the job of installing glass curtains, manufactured by the Yuanda Aluminum Industry Engineering Company (YAIEC) of China, on the wall of the terminal building needs specific skills and the lack of which work of the airport modernization was getting delayed. The arrival of the skilled workforce would expedite the process and speed up work to make the building ready for the upcoming Commonwealth Games event in October next year. The Chinese experts will also train the Indian workers in the glass installation technique and their subsequent maintenance.
The terminal building, which is expected to be commissioned for commercial operations in March next year, was getting delayed due to the execution of sophisticated works like installation of baggage handling systems, passenger boarding bridges, automatic walkways and the glass wall on the terminal building. Over 1800 workers are currently engaged in the airport modernization and allied construction job of which the foreign workforce is less than one per cent, Arora added.
