BHEL sits pretty on Rs. 12,225cr contracts

Country’s largest power equipment giant, the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) is all set to capture contracts worth Rs. 12,225 crore in the next couple of weeks as the equipment maker has already finalized the financial position for the upcoming projects, Chairman and Managing Director K Ravikumar said in a statement.

The government controlled power major with market values of about $ 22 billion is counting on private power firms to boost its order book at a time when bids delay, rising competition from private players and slow orders from the government are causing concern for the company. The BHEL currently has orders worth $ 1.3 trillion, including Rs. 15,000 crore signed this year, with the private sector contributing 90 per cent.

The company hopes to get Rs. 55,000 crore of orders in the current financial year and the contracts could rise by Rs. 10,000 crore if it gets part of a bulk equipment orders from NTPC Limited in the beginning of next year. In view of the emerging and increasing demand scenario, the company has decided to expand its capacity to meet its future requirements. To tackle the increasing competition from domestic and foreign players the company has started looking for green pastures for future investment avenues, the MD added.
